    -Story- Mist of the Jungle

Mist is a curious thing, its existence mundane, but its effect on the mind of those
encountering it can range from nothing to dramatic paranoia. To the southwest of Nela Dan
lies an expanse of jungle known as the Jaded Mist, named for the thick mist and fog broken
up by tall trees. Within this opaque landscape lives the Amazone. A reclusive people
rumored to tame and ride wicked beasts. They are a people who live among deadly flora
and massive fauna in a land where one can barely see what lies ahead of them
Lord Velir, the prestigious ruler of Nela Dan, had been traveling with Chieftain Olaf for
roughly two months. The two had traveled back to Celir Stronghold, Olaf's home. The
Einjurn, under Olaf's command, treated Lord Velir kindly but preferred to keep to
themselves. They only knew the elven lord as a rich dignitary who would sooner attend a
council meeting than put in any work. Lord Velir recalled the surprised look he got from the
Einjurn, and Olaf for that matter, when he eagerly hopped off his well-decorated steed to
assist in pushing a cart that had become entrapped in some much. Although the Einjurn
were far larger than the slender elf, they took notice of the effort he put in. Digging his
boots far into the muddy road to push it out. He spent time with the butchers and cut meats
for their stews, tanned the hides of animals, and fetched supplies for the smiths. All the
while maintaining a sense of positivity the Einjurn assumed elves incapable of.
There was much discussion on where Olaf, his Einjurn, and Lord Velir would travel next
At this point in the year, the Einjurn had prepared their winter stores, those coming of age
had completed all rights of passage, and no upcoming holidays needed recognizing. No
contracts had been issued, and no signs of terrible beasts terrorizing any nearby
settlements. Neri was seemingly in a time of peace. Where would they go at a time like
this? The answer came from Lord Velir in the Great Hall of Celir Stronghold while Olaf and
himself shared drinks. The elf inquired about Olaf's many journeys, the places he favored
or disliked. After an hour of indulging the elf in conversation about himself, Olaf turned and
    asked Velir a question.
"Where is this journey taking you?" The question was without any hint of emotion. No
curiosity from Olaf. He simply wanted to know what the aging elf was looking for from this
sudden departure from his lavish home. Olaf wondered to himself if Velir even knew.
"For now," he replied, "I believe it's taking me to the Jaded Mist. A land of mysteries through
and through. We don't know anything about the people who live there, the things that live
there." Velir's tone began to pace again, like a child interested in any new
    toy.

"We know little because few who go there return, Velir. It is a dangerous place. Not suited
for an expedition. It is sometimes best to leave the unknown just that." Olaf placed his mug
on the table. He excused himself and walked out of the hall
The proud Chieftain of the Einjurn approached The Bonfire. To anyone else, it appeared as
an ordinary stack of wood, flames climbing high into the sky. It was more than that, though.
It never required more wood to maintain its flame, and the heat it gave off stayed the same
no matter the weather. It was forever alight, To Olaf, it was even more. His link to The Tear.
How it happened, he didn't know. He could still remember that night. The night his
stronghold shook from their home and was torn out and placed right here. The fire never
stopped burning. Olaf stopped aging, and when he peered into those flames, he could see
more than any other man. He looked into it now; he could see The Fountain of Nela Dan,
The Alter within Diopolis, The Forge of Murloduhr. Each one of them is another link in The
Tear with their own stewards sharing his condition. He would, on occasion, check in on
these link s. Looking for obvious signs of destruction or panic. He felt a pull to ensure
these links were safe and were they not, he would act. He looked further into the flames
to The Effigy of the Jaded Mist. He was startled as he heard screaming, shouts, and a
monstrous roar into the night. He could see people running with weapons, others
carrying wounded. He pulled himself away. He had seen enough.
Olaf collected himself and returned to Velir in the hall, overhearing him regale a story of
elven bureaucracy that the Einjurn were tolerating out of kindness. Olaf interrupted, the
Einjurn looked relieved, nodded to the Chieftain, and moved to another table. Olaf looked
    to Velir, stoic as ever.
"We will depart for the Jaded Mist at dawn."
Velir looked at him, obviously pleased but confused
"Why the sudden change of heart? Should we not leave the unknown as is?"
"Do not concern yourself with the why, Lord Velir. You shall see in time."
Velir took another drink and slammed it down. "You Tear Watchers," he laughed laughed a bit,
"always SO damn cryptic. You remind me of my wife."
The two bid one another good night, good packing, and in the early morning, a swift
    departure.
